How to Store Dehydrated Food
Dehydrating food is a great way to preserve fruits, vegetables, and even meat so you can enjoy your favorite flavors year-round. A food dehydrator, especially a fruit dehydrator, can make this process efficient and easy. However, once food has been successfully dehydrated, proper storage is crucial to maintaining its quality and extending its shelf life.
1.Choose the right container
When storing dehydrated food, the type of container used is crucial. Sealed containers such as glass jars, vacuum-sealed bags, or Mylar bags with oxygen absorbers are ideal. These options help prevent moisture from re-entering the food and causing it to spoil. Avoid using regular plastic bags as they may not provide an adequate barrier to air and moisture.
2.Keep cool and avoid light
Store dehydrated food in a cool, dark place. Over time, heat and light degrade the quality of food. A pantry or cabinet away from direct sunlight is perfect. If you have a large amount of dehydrated food, consider using a temperature-controlled environment, such as a basement or dedicated storage room.
